A US survey found that the average gay and lesbian consumer is very discerning with their spending, citing that 89% of respondents will ‘go out of their way to buy products that advertise to gay consumers’ – statistics that are reflective of similar research carried out in Australia. A survey by Queensland Pride revealed that 87.3% of respondents were more likely to buy from companies which they perceived to be gay or lesbian friendly. In  Perth this translates to a niche market that is discerning, loyal and which has high levels of disposable income.
